Frank “Wheelie” Firari won a hard fought battle to win the IMCA Modified Feature event at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway Sunday night on Countryside Chevrolet Buick GMC night at the races. Firari & Adam Reed led the field around for the green with Mike Mueller & Jeremy Christians following suit. Lap 4 saw Christians use the high groove to take over 3rd spot on the backstretch and set his sights on Reed. Reed had the top of the track working for him forcing Christians to look low. After some side by side racing lap 7 had Christians take over 2nd spot. By the halfway point Christians was starting to close the gap on the leader as the battle for 3rd place waged on behind them between Reed, Kelly Brown & Dan Roedl. The lone caution came on lap 14 as Roedl spins, closing the gap for the leaders. Firari shot out front on the restart and was feeling the heat from Christians as Brown shot into 3rd. Firari raced on to win his first feature this year at the DCFS followed by Christians & Brown. Heat race winner were Christians & Tim Lemirande.

The IMCA Sport Mod feature showed that “Superman” Jeff Schmuhl had his cape on as he powered his way out front on the first lap followed by Brekken Kleinschmidt & Jack Jones. Lap 5 saw the first caution fall for a spin. Schmuhl kept top spot on the restart as Kleinschmidt stayed close on his tail. Schmuhl started to outdistance himself from the field as the final caution came on lap 15. Schmuhl went on to take the checkered flag flowed by Kleinschmidt & Jones. Heat race winner was Kleinschmidt.

The DCSA Late Model feature showcased Larry Richards out front and feeling the heat from Tim Buhler & Dave Thomas. The second time around Buhler surges into the top spot as the race is now for 2nd position between Richards & Thomas. Thomas finds the low groove working for the #19 and takes over second spot on lap 3. Buhler started to pull away from the field and goes on to win followed by Thomas & Richards. Buhler had a clean sweep as he won the heat race.

The Street Stock feature had Steve Ecker flying thru traffic at the drop of the green flag followed by Russ Davison & Chad Hummelmeier. Hummelmeier raced into 2nd on lap 4 using the high side of the track as mechanical issues forced the leader Ecker to pull off track. This put Hummelmeier in the top spot followed by Davison & Stuart White. The laps wound down with Hummelmeier getting the win followed by Davison & White. Ecker was the heat race winner.

The final feature of the evening had John Stanton take the early lead for the Grand Nationals followed by Jay Schaalma & Todd Ascherien. By lap 2 Kenny Richards raced into runner up spot and set his sights on the leader. Using the high line he took the lead next time by from Stanton with Ascherein in 3rd and Larry Richards moving up for 4th. Ascherien ducked under Stanton for position on lap 8 and powers into 2nd spot as Richards follows suit. On lap 12 Asherein was forced to pull onto the infield with car problems putting Larry Richards in 2nd. Kenny Richards raced the remaining laps to take the win followed by Larry & Stanton. Heat race winner was Ascherien.

The return of the Mechanic Races rounded out the night. Taking home top honors were Joey Jaeger, Mike Schmuhl, Tim Fletcher & Corey Stanton. The next race at the fairgrounds will be Sunday July 19th. Krahn Performance Racing will be the Trophy Sponsor for the evening & it will be Ladies Night at the Races, with Powder Puff Races being added to the docket! Races start at 5:00.
