The Wisconsin Brown Swiss Association continued celebrating 100 years this past weekend with three full days of events. Thursday kicked off with a youth showmanship clinic led by several of the older youth, followed by a sale cattle preview party. The youth and adult leaders held a meeting to discuss plans for the National Heifer Show July 9th where 38 Wisconsin youth plan to exhibit 54 heifers in Owatana, Minnesota during National Convention.

On Friday the Swisstacular sale had many active phone and pre-sale bidders competing with the in-person bidders. High seller at $6,000 was a choice lot in which the buyer picks a bull for JoDee Kingpin Raisin Hell and receives the resulting calf, consigned by Powerline Swiss and purchased by Sparxflyn and Frosted Beauty Swiss of Epworth, IA. Highest live lot was $4,200 for a summer yearling purchased by the partnership of Ben Everson and Ronald Kelm and consigned by Ronald Kelm. Sale cattle were managed by Allen “Spud” Paulson with Jim Hammerand on pedigrees, Chris Lungren as auctioneer, and Tammy Voegeli as clerk. A total of 24 live lots and one choice lot were sold with an average of $2,616.

Friday evening everyone gathered for a celebratory dinner and social before heading back to the barns to bag cows and do final clipping. Hayden Hauschildt, Ellsworth, Wisconsin, put the Youth Showmanship participants to the test before picking his winners: Mini Showman Abby Meyer, Junior Showman Briana Meyer, Intermediate Showman Marcus Schoepfer, and Senior Showman Renae Holthaus. A Youth Social for the younger kids happened during the Senior Showmanship contest.

Saturday the heifer show started at 8:30 am followed by the cow show at 12:30. Angelo Pozzatti of Italy sorted through 155 total head of cattle to find his champions. “First of all, I just want to say good luck to all exhibitors to start the show,” began Judge Pozzatti. He expressed appreciation for the association picking him to judge the show and by the end of the show expressed how impressed he was with the quality of the Wisconsin Brown Swiss.
