Events for week of June 15, 2025

The Junior Fair Foods and Food Preservation event is a judging competition for youth involved in the foods project. Exhibits are evaluated based on their composition, appearance, creativity, and presentation. Entries are displayed in the Youth Building, located at the northeast corner of the Fairgrounds.

Join us for a learning event designed for kindergarten through 2nd graders in the Cloverbud project. Young exhibitors will showcase their work in various subject areas, learn how to engage in a face-to-face conversation with a judge about their exhibits and receive a participation ribbon.

This event is a judging competition for youth who are involved in projects related to flowers, houseplants, and home environments. Participants will bring their entries to be judged in person, where they can receive feedback and ask questions. The exhibits will be evaluated based on composition, arrangement, appearance, and structure.

Fitters will compete in two categories; Junior Fitters, grades 4-8 and Senior Fitters, grades 9 and older. Held in the Farm Progress Arena, fitters will have one hour to fit their animal.

A judging event for youth participating in the swine project is held in the Junior Livestock Building. Swine are evaluated based on their functionality, structure, balance, and attractiveness. The Market Hog Show is a terminal show, meaning that all youth exhibitors must be certified annually in Meat Animal Quality Assurance (MAQA) and attend educational project meetings throughout the year.

The open-class foods division offers a category for every taste preference and kitchen skill. Whether you love to impress your family with decorative cakes or want to make your guests emotional over canned salsa that's so good the flavor lingers for days, there’s a category for you. 

Home furnishings are categorized into five distinct classes. The “Machine and Hand-Embroidery” class includes a variety of items, such as pillowcases and wall hangings. The “Quilts” category is very popular, featuring subcategories like piece quilting, baby quilts, and wall hangings.

Fairgoers can stroll under the grandstand during the fair to explore Dodge County’s open-class flower division. The exhibits showcase stunning displays, including single-variety bouquets, potted plants, artistic arrangements, and themed compositions. 

Farming has deep roots in Dodge County, and the love for the land is reflected in the exhibits featured in the open-class divisions for farm crops, vegetables, and fruits. Classes include husked corn, corn stalks, threshed corn, grain sheaves, soybean sheaves, hay sheaves, baled slices, and ensiled forages, as well as standard and unusual vegetables, potatoes, and various fruits.

The open-class clothing division consists of two main categories: children's garments, which feature around 20 different subcategories, and adult garments, encompassing more than 25 subcategories. Garments will be evaluated based on three key criteria:

The exhibits represent the original work of the exhibitors and are created as part of supervised project activities outside of regular school hours. All entries are evaluated based on construction, design, finishing, color, and overall application.

Join us for a cake decorating judging event for youth participants. Exhibitors will showcase their skills in a Danish-style judging format, where their creations are evaluated based on techniques involving frosting, fondant, gum paste, and more. This popular class emphasizes creativity, placement, and presentation.

This event is a photography competition for youth who have captured images as part of their projects. The exhibits will be evaluated using the Danish judging system, focusing on composition, mounting quality, technique, and image clarity. Entries will be judged and displayed in the Youth Building, located at the northeast corner of the Fairgrounds. 

Beekeeping is a popular hobby in the Dodge and Jefferson County area due to the fellowship and education it offers. The honey open-class division provides beekeepers with the opportunity to showcase their products in a competitive setting. There are ten different categories, ranging from honeycomb to extracted honey and beeswax, among others.

Dust off your brushes, sharpen your cutting blades and replenish your paint supplies because the open-class cultural arts division is calling all exhibitors with artistic talent. The “Art” category is for amateurs only and features a variety of mediums, including oil paintings and colored pencil works.

This event showcases youth competing in Beef Breeding and Feeder projects. The beef cattle will be evaluated in the Farm Progress Arena based on functionality, structure, balance, and attractiveness. To participate, exhibitors must have attended and completed educational project meetings throughout the year.

Participation in the open-class beef cattle division is encouraged for both adults and children. The breeds included are Shorthorn, Angus, Hereford, and a category for other beef breeds combined. Age classifications are as follows: junior calf, senior calf, summer yearling, junior yearling, senior yearling, and cows aged two years and over.

Knitting and crocheting remain popular hobbies that offer both utility and relaxation. Entries in this category are judged based on their suitability for purpose, design, evenness and perfection of stitches, neatness of blocking, and quality of seams and joinings. The "hand knitting" class includes approximately 20 different categories, ranging from adult sweaters to home accessories.

Exhibits are evaluated based on quality, craftsmanship, finishing, and storytelling.

Youth participating in the dairy project lead their cattle into the Farm Progress Arena for judging. Dairy breeds are evaluated based on functionality, frame, balance, and udder characteristics. Exhibitors must attend and complete educational meetings throughout the year.

The public is welcome to observe in the Small Animal Building, located at the northwest corner of the Fairgrounds. During this event, youth engage in Danish judging, where their animals are assessed based on functionality, structure, balance, and attractiveness.

This event showcases the talents of youth participating in the dairy project and takes place in the Farm Progress Arena. Participants compete in registered and grade classes, alternating by age, starting with spring calves and following a fixed breed rotation. Youth demonstrate their knowledge of dairy education and compete for various showmanship awards, including top production, somatic cell count, and protein production.

Youth entering grades 3 and 4 this school year will have the opportunity to show calves in the Junior Showmanship Contest. Judging will focus on the proper showmanship techniques demonstrated by each participant and the training of the calf. This event is organized by the Dodge County Dairy Youth Advisory Committee and aims to promote interest in the Dairy Project.

Dodge County is fortunate to have a robust open-class dairy program featuring several breeds, including Holstein, Guernsey, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Ayrshire, and Milking Shorthorn. As is typical for dairy shows, the age classifications in this division range from spring calf to five-year-old cow, and include categories such as Get of Sire, Three Best Females, and Produce of Dam.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see talented young musicians showcase their skills in instrumental performance, vocals, and piano. These performers have dedicated a lot of time and effort to their music projects, and now it’s their time to shine.

Discover a diverse range of animals from around the world in the "Wild World of Animals" exhibit, featuring 13 different species, including amphibians, reptiles, and birds of prey. This event educates families about the importance of nature and wildlife while providing suggestions on how everyone can contribute to environmental conservation. 

The racing animals don't require training to race. As soon as they are taken out of their trailer, they instinctively know that the faster they run around the course, the sooner they can return to their cool and comfortable temporary home. In addition to pigs, the racing lineup includes ducks and Nigerian Dwarf goats from West Africa. 

This fun event benefits the Small Animal Scholarship Fund and the dedicated Junior Fair youth participating in the Small Animal Project. All the animals up for auction are champions, having won blue or red ribbons!

In their captivating 25-minute show, you'll see a variety of dogs, from popular Belgian Malinois to a 9-pound chihuahua mix, and many more! Crowds have the chance to win souvenirs through volunteer participation or purchase their own after the show while meeting one of the four-legged stars.

Nick’s Kids Show is a musically entertaining experience designed for the entire family, where children are invited on stage to join a rock 'n' roll band.
