A lot of work goes in to getting everything in its place and ready for the big crowds at the county fair. Buildings need cleaning, signs posted, fence installed and garbage cans distributed just to name a few. The grounds crew works 8 am to 4:30 pm during the set-up and cleaning weeks. During the Fair, two shifts of crews attend from 6 am to 2:30 pm for first-shift and second from 2:30 pm to 11 pm. $8.00 per hour starting wage.
“Participating and contributing to the success of the Fair is very rewarding”, said Dale Norenberg one of the Grounds Crew Supervisors “Members of the crew learn teamwork and job skills valuable for future full-time positions”
During the Fair, from Wednesday, August 14th to Sunday, August 18th crews split into two shifts. First shift 6 am to 2:30 pm and second-shift 2:30 pm to 11 pm. Crews work at a fast pace to keep the grounds looking good, garbage cans empty and supplies full.
After the Fair, everything is taken down, put away and cleaned up. Picking up garbage across the large 75-acre facility takes a lot of teamwork and dedication. Clean-up hours are normally 8 am to 4:30 pm.
