Grand Funk Railroad celebrates 50th anniversary tour in Beaver Dam, Aug 17

Grand Funk Railroad has released seven gold albums and two platinum albums during their legacy. The group also collected ten certifications, exceeding 25 million copies sold worldwide.

In 1969, Grand Funk Railroad, was formed in Flint, Michigan. Reaching peak popularity by the early 1970s, the band released hit after chart-topping hit off of their first few albums, including “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home)”, “The Loco-Motion”, “Some Kind of Wonderful” and “Walk Like a Man”. The crew quickly became known as THE “American Band” and sealed the designation when they released “We’re and American Band” in 1973.

In 1971, the group’s music was so prevalent that they sold out Shey Stadium in just seventy-two hours. The American Band will be touring all across America this year to celebrate more than fifty years of making hits. Their 2024 tour, rolling over into 2025, will make dozens of stops across the states – from California to New York. The group will be revisiting their classic rock and funk sound with fans all across the country. But, no need to travel far to see them, the American Band will be performing on the Dodge County Fairgrounds stage in Beaver Dam on Saturday, August 17th at 8pm. The local stop on their Loco-Motion Tour is free general admission, with paid gate admission to the fair. Beaver Dam is centrally located between the capital city, the Fox Valley and Milwaukee-area.

Over the years, Grand Funk Railroad released nineteen charted singles, which included eight Top 40 hits and two Number One hit singles.

The 2024 Dodge County Fair will take place on August 14-18 with daily free entertainment, including concerts on Thursday (Tracy Byrd) and Friday (Matt Stell) evenings. Advance fair tickets are available online ($15/daily or $35 season pass). Daily gate admission is $10 if guests arrive before Noon or $15 for afternoon admission. Children nine and under are FREE. Season tickets will be available for $40 at the gate.
