Fan Appreciation Night took on a whole new meaning Sunday evening as 4 new winners took the checkered flag in the feature events. The Performance Motorsports IMCA Modified took to the track with Dan Roedl moving from his 5th place starting spot out to the front on the first lap with cars shuffling for position. Mike Mueller and Adam Reed follow suit. By lap 4 Jeremy Christians moved into 4th spot and was putting the heat on reed for position. Two circuits later he prevails as Roedl moves out to a straightaway lead over Mueller. On lap 11 Christians starts closing the gap on Mueller and pulls tight on his bumper the next few circuits. Mueller stuck to the high side as Christians was running low as they raced side by side. The next few laps saw quite the battle for second spot till lap 16, out of turn 3 Christians powered his way under Mueller for 2nd spot. Roedl went on to win his first feature at the fairgrounds this season followed by Christians & Mueller. Heat wins went to Mueller & Christians.
The United Auto Parts IMCA Sport Mods took to the track next. Jack Jones took the early lead from his front row starting spot as the field sorted out behind him. Brekken Kleinschmidt moved into second with a 3 way battle going on for third spot between Jeff Schmuhl, Wyatt Block & Tim Sheppard. The second lap had “Superman” Schmuhl surge into runner up spot with newcomer Block following his line. The top 3 cars put on quite the race for the top spot as Schmuhl threads thru the middle in turn 4 to move out front. The first caution came on lap 4 with a car spun. Schmuhl holds on to the top spot as Colten Van Hierden flies into 2nd on the restart with Block tail to nose as a 3 wide battle ensued on the backstretch. Block takes over the lead as Schmuhl holds onto 2nd as Van Hierden spins coming out of turn 4, putting Jon Schultz into 3rd spot. Schmuhl continues to stalk Brock the next few laps and gets within striking distance by lap 9 as another caution came. On lap 11 Schultz pulls alongside Schmuhl for a battle of the 11”s as they trade positions, with Superman able to hold his spot with some fierce racing going on between them. Schmuhl had one more shot at the leader on lap 13 as he pulls up tight on the bumper of Brock but Brock was able to hang on for the win with Schmuhl & Schulz following him over the line. Heat winners were Block & Van Hierden.
Larry Richards powered out front on the start of the Daizy Sweeps Grand National feature with Aaron Streblow powering his way into second spot. John Stanton holds his third spot as the Richards brothers Jeff and Kenny stage a 2 lap duel for fifth position with Jeff coming out the victor. By lap 5 Streblow was all over the bumper of Larry as Jeff overtook Stanton for 3rd. Larry lost ground the next time around as Streblow capitalized and drove low to take over top spot followed by Jeff & Kenny. Streblow began to pull away from the field as the brotherly battle began again for position. Some side by side action took place with Kenny repeatedly trying the low line against his brother but Jeff had found his groove. Stanton was patiently waiting right behind them as the boys continued to give the fans a show. Streblow took the checkered as Jeff held off a last lap charge by Kenny & Stanton to keep runner up spot with Kenny getting third. Heat races went to Streblow & Stanton.
The Tim Paitrick Automotive Street Stocks took to the track for the final feature event of the evening. Michael Held took the early lead with 3 wide racing going on behind him. After the yellow flew on lap 2 Held kept the front of the pack on the restart closely followed by Jesse Krahn, Dan Miller & Steve Ecker. It was anyone’s race as the top 4 ran bumper to bumper the next few laps. The race for 5th spot was a separate show alone as 5 cars swapped spots the next few laps with Alex Crasper racing into the spot by lap 5. Krahn tried to use the low side of the track and on lap 7 Held went high in turns 1 & 2 giving Krahn the opening he was waiting for to surge out front. Racing was far from over as Held, Miller Ecker & Crasper started to fight for runner up honors. Held was doing an excellent job in his best run of the season guarding his position as Miller & Ecker staged a heated fight for 3rd. On lap 12 Ecker & Miller continued their fight & spun coming into turn 3 bringing out the yellow as Krahn saw his cushion dissipate. On the restart Ecker put the heat on Krahn with some side by side racing for the lead as Held looked on. Krahn had the outside line dialed in and survived the pressure from Ecker & Held to win his first feature at the Fairgrounds. Heat winners were Ecker & Miller.
The next Race is set for Sunday August 2nd on Kim Parsons Memorial Trophy Tour night at the races. Gates open at 3:00 with racing at 5:00 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway.
