Open Class Foods Judging
August 16, 2017 @ 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
The open-class foods division has a category for every taste bud and kitchen talent. Whether your like to wow your family with decorative cakes or you prefer to make your guests cry over canned salsa so good the flavor lingers for days, there’s a category for everything. Breads, cakes, and cookies are judged on the outside shape, surface, and volume; inside texture, grain, and color; and, of course, the flavor. Decorated cakes are judged on the decoration and quality of frosting, and canned goods are reviewed for fullness, uniformity, and proportion of pack; defects, uniformity, and flavor of product; clearness or syrup quality of liquid; and neatness of exhibit. Read the open-class exhibitor book for more detailed information. Judging will be held Wednesday of the fair at 9 a.m. In addition to awards of first, second, third, and fourth place in each category, “best exhibit” awards will be presented in some of the classes. Exhibitors and fair goers are invited to sit and watch the judging process. Sponsors for the food division include, but are not limited to, RED STAR®, Wilson®, Dodge and Jefferson Beekeeper’s Association, Jarden Home Brands, and Ball®.
