Sprint Cars have evolved over the years, and in southeast Wisconsin they developed from an extremely competitive and talented group of Modified racers. Modified racing from the 60’s to the early 80’s was absolutely a big deal in that part of state as teams could race nearly seven days a week. Those were days were legends were born. Many of those names remain synonymous to the region and racing today. Many of the best had nicknames, such as Mouse, the Cat, and the Hound. And there were many more. Racing was absolutely a family sport in those days, and in southeast Wisconsin many of those same last names continue to roar around the dirt tracks of that area. One of those legendary racers was Fuzzy Fassbender, whose career spanned from 1949 – 1982. First the IRA, and now the MSA too, have had racers who have continued that family tradition. It seems only natural that tribute be paid to one of those past racers and families. Friday night, May 28th at the Dodge County Fairgrounds will have both the Bumper To Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints and the Midwest Sprintcar Association (MSA) competing in the first-ever Fuzzy Fassbender Classic. Modifieds, with a Sport Mod bonus, will make up the third class.
This event has been in the works for a few years, but it was decided it couldn’t wait for the end of the season race at Dodge, it had to move up, as potentially weather could push it back another year.
Fuzzy ” The Hound” Fassbender was known for his purple race cars. Today, his son Lance wheels the purple #7 MSA machine. Lance is a veteran of IRA competition too. It’s never easy squeezing a date in after a schedule has been released, and even more difficult finding a date where both IRA and MSA could get together. So what better way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend, than having a three-division open wheel show to pay tribute to one of the most recognizable names in Wisconsin racing.
Modifieds, and Sport Mods too, are welcome to compete together in the Mod portion, with the top finishing Sport Mod receiving bonus pay.
Adult tickets are $25 and will be available at the gate. More special event info to be released soon.
