Junior Fair exhibitors are busy getting ready for the annual Dodge County Junior Fair, August 17-21. Activities for the Junior Fair begin Saturday, August 13 with the 4-H Pleasure Horse Show starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Dodge County Fairgrounds. The speed and game competition took place on Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 am at the Fairgrounds.
Food and Food Preservation are judged on Monday, August 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the Youth Building at the Dodge County Fairgrounds.
Tuesday is Entry Day. All exhibits must be in place at the fairgrounds by 7:00 p.m. that day. Judging for Flowers, Houseplants, Plant Crafts and Home Grounds is in the Youth Building at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16. Check-in time for Dairy is from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Weigh-in times for animals are 9:00 a.m. to noon for Market Hogs, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for Market Beef and Lambs. All animals (unless otherwise specified) must be checked in by superintendents by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dairy, Beef & Sheep Fitting Contests will also be held Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Farm Progress Arena.
The schedule for the Farm Progress Arena for Wednesday, August 17 is: 10:30 a.m. Beef Breeding Show, followed by Dairy/Beef Feeder Calves, 12 noon the Market Beef Show and at 6:00 p.m. the Dog Performance Show. On Wednesday, August 17, the Market Hog Show is at 8:00 a.m. in the Sheep building. The Junior Breeding Sheep Show begins in the Sheep Building at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Market Lamb Show at 5:00 p.m.
In the Youth Building judging for Photography begins at 9:00 a.m. and judging for Knitting, Crocheting, Home Environment, Child Development, Clothing, and Crops also begins at 9:00 a.m. Cake Decorating begins at 9:00 a.m. Vegetable/Fruit judging begins at 1:00pm. At 4:30 p.m. Exploring member exhibits are judged.
On Thursday, August 18 Rabbits and Small Animals judging begins at 8:30 am in the Small Animal Building. The Dairy Show judging begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Farm Progress Arena. Beef, Sheep and Swine Herdsmanship judging begins at 10 a.m.
Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. the Market Animal Sale Auction is held in the Farm Progress Arena.
Judging in the Youth Building begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday for Ceramics, Clowns, Music, Drama, Leathercraft, Drawing and Painting, Art 1, 2, & 3, Youth Open Arts and Crafts, Creative Stitchery, Stencil Painting, Folk Arts, other Cultural Arts, Woodworking, Booths, Leadership, Self-Determined projects, Animal & Vet Science, Natural Sciences, Mechanical Sciences, and Electricity. At 4:00 p.m. judging for Cloverbud members will begin.
On Friday, August 19 at 9:00 a.m., Poultry is judged. Dairy Showmanship begins at 9:00 a.m. and Junior Britches Showmanship begins at 1:00 p.m. Music Performances will be judged at 1:00pm in Radio Park. At 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Swine Showmanship begins in the Sheep show ring.
On Saturday, August 20 at 9:00 a.m., Cats and Kittens are judged. A special judging for the younger Brothers/Sisters of fair entrants is at 10:00 a.m. in the Youth Building. Goats are judged at 8:00 a.m. in the Sheep Building. The Small Animal Auction is at 4:00 p.m. in the Farm Progress Arena. Also in the Farm Progress Arena “Supreme Showmanship” will be featured at 7:00 p.m. for livestock showmanship winners.
On Sunday, August 21 the public is invited to view a Style Show on the WBEV/WXRO stage in Radio Park at 4:00 p.m. The Youth Building will be hosting the Model Horse Show at 1:00 p.m. The Farm Progress Arena hosts the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction at 11:30 a.m., the “Little Britches” Showmanship contest at 1:30 p.m., and the Herdsmanship awards begin at 5:00 p.m.
The Small Animal Building will host the “Little Flock” Showmanship Contest at 10:00 a.m. and the “Little Bunny Huddle” Showmanship Contest at 1:00 p.m.
In the Sheep Building, the Sheep Lead class will begin at 3:00 p.m., with “Little Shepherds” Showmanship contest to follow.
